Today I went into Paul’s Auto Repair to have my oil changed and fully prepared to be reminded about the work I haven’t been able to fix on my car yet. And honestly, I understand, it wouldn’t be responsible if they didn’t mention safety concerns.

But this time it didn’t feel like a routine reminder. It felt like someone genuinely checking in. It felt like care. It felt like compassion.

I explained that I couldn’t afford to take care of everything right now. When you have family, bills, and other responsibilities, choosing what to handle first can be incredibly hard. Even though I couldn’t move forward with the repairs, there was no pressure, there was understanding and genuine concern.

What happened next completely shocked me.

They decided to cover the cost of the repair that needed to be done. Not partially, fully. They chose my safety over compensation.

I didn’t ask for that. I didn’t expect that. And honestly, things like that don’t usually happen to me. Even people I’ve known for years haven’t shown that kind of generosity. These are people who had only serviced my car once before.

To make it even more meaningful, it was her birthday.

I don’t know if they will ever fully know the extent of what they did for me today. If I was close to the edge, they definitely pulled me back. I will forever appreciate and remember this kind gesture. They truly are a family over there, and the minute you walk in, you become a part of it.
